Question:

We recently purchased a home, and to get the lowest possible interest rate, my wife was the only one on the FHA loan. Since we are both joint owners of our house, but I technically do not exist on the loan, can I get another FHA loan?

The plan is to move my in-laws close to our house and have them live there, and we would actually purchase the home with them if we were able to get this FHA loan.

Answer:

Well it’s a good thing you didn’t get on your home loan with your wife, because typically, borrowers are only allowed one FHA loan at any given time. There are a few exceptions, but we’ll save that for another time.

Now, for buying a home for your in-laws, you won’t qualify as an owner-occupant on this FHA loan, but there’s still hope. Though you don’t intend to live there yourself, you could still be a non-occupying co-signer for your parents/in-laws IF they were also to be on the loan. Hopefully that solves the problem!
