How to Work, Work, Work, Work, Work it Like Rihanna
It probably won’t surprise you that I love Rihanna. Like, love love Rihanna.
So naturally, I was hyped for her when it came out that Rihanna was now in that elusive club with Bill Gates and Oprah–she’s a billionaire, now, baby! Most of us mere mortals don’t luck our way into this club–you gotta get there through hard work. So just what can we learn from RiRi, and how can we apply it to our own lives?
Shine Bright Like a Diamond
Don’t be afraid to let yourself stand out from the crowd, whatever that looks like for you. Dye your hair that crazy color you’ve been secretly coveting, speak up in meetings if you have thoughts, start training for that marathon you’ve always wanted to run, do that collaboration with Kanye and Paul McCartney if the mood strikes you– don’t dull your shine.
Let Others Stand Under Your Umbrella-ella-ella
You know what made Rihanna a billionaire? Fenty, her lifestyle brand. You know why it made so much money? Because it was founded to be inclusive of all shapes, sizes, and skin colors. That’s right, Rihanna used her platform to create a brand designed for everyone and was rewarded for it. So do the same. Use your platform to lift people up, and include as many people as you can.
Shut up and Drive
Planning is great, but sometimes you just have to take control and get it done. (Like launching that billion-dollar brand because no one was making makeup for everyone’s shades up until that point.) If you can dream it, you can do it–and sometimes it’s important to put yourself in the driver’s seat and make it happen.
This is What You Came For
Ultimately, you gotta remember what your goals are and just go after them; and once you reach them (and you will), set new ones. I doubt RiRi knew in 2006 when she had her first hit song, she’d be a billionaire in less than 15 years–she just hit the hustle and kept reaching new heights.
Here’s the thing, though–It’s easy to focus on what other people are doing and comparing yourself to them, but when all is said and done, this is your life, so what you want matters. No one’s goals are the same, so at the end of the day, make sure you get what you came for.
